Micki Colquhoun works hard to represent the clients she serves and she thoroughly enjoys the work. She began selling real estate in 2001, and since then she's carved out a reputation for excellence, having been top producer at her previous firm during her first two years in the business and consistently among the top producers at Camden Real Estate Company since then.
"I love putting transactions together. And what I've found is, there's a way to do it where essentially everyone gets most of what they want," she says. “Working at Camden Real Estate Company is a big part of what makes this possible. It's the approach taken to presenting a property and it’s the supportive culture within the organization. We have the best website around so we can offer national and international exposure but we’re also local, which means we can be flexible and responsive to our clients. It’s just a great place to work.”
Micki brings tremendous grace and a wealth of life experience to her real estate clients. She's personable, social and very available, but she's also an energetic researcher who enjoys number-crunching and market analysis. Her clients marvel at her energy as well. "She's gung-ho from the start, really motivated, and she works so hard. She really listens to you," said one client recently.
A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Micki graduated from Barnard College and earned an MBA from Columbia University. After fifteen years of working in finance, Micki moved from New York City to Castine, Maine in the late 1980's with her husband and three young children. She then worked for Eastern Maine Development Corporation, taught at Maine Maritime Academy, and served as head of her children's independent school in Blue Hill. “Those jobs were a great way to get to know a lot of people within the State of Maine in a relatively short period of time,” she says. Once their children left home, Micki and her husband, artist Jeff Colquhoun, spent several winters in Venice, Italy. They moved to Camden in 1999 because of the town's vibrant year-round qualities.
"It's such a friendly and easy place to live compared to almost any place else on the Maine Coast. You can move here and people are happy to include you. The Camden area is so welcoming of new people and there's so much to do here," she says. Micki serves on the board of the Coastal Mountains Land Trust, as treasurer of her church vestry, as an officer of The Camden Yacht Club, and on committees for The Farnsworth Museum and The Camden Public Library.
For Micki, this is the best of all possible worlds. "For us, part of the move to Maine was to lead a considered life. I happen to love doing real estate, but other things are important too -- spending time with family, and taking advantage of Maine's incredible outdoors. We try to get out there all year long, skiing in the winter and getting out on the boat in the summer, with as many scuba-diving trips as we can manage in between. When you look back at your life, the memories are your real treasure."
