Bill and his wife Annie live on a sprawling 100-acre farm in Freedom, Maine. Just a simple walk around his yard gives Bill a chance to reflect on his professional relationships. Scattered about his property are countless objects gifted to him by many of the real estate clients he has served over the years. They are reminders of a life dedicated to building connections, fostering trust, and helping others find their sense of home.
Raised in Southern California, Bill served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and then attended college in Colorado. Around this time, he decided to explore his mother’s East Coast roots and ended up discovering Midcoast, Maine.
For more than a decade, Bill was a high school English teacher in Belfast, until he and his wife Annie decided it was time for him to change careers – one which would give Bill flexibility as the couple raised their twin boys. Having been a teacher, Bill was adept at working with people of all ages and handling administrative and other vocational surprises. He was well prepared for the move to real estate. After working for other brokers and then running his own Coldwell Banker Office in the 80’s, Bill came to Camden Real Estate Company in the 1990s to work with Scott Horty.
Bill’s insight has been put to good use as a past president of the Midcoast Board of Realtors, Director of the Statewide Maine Association of Realtors, and Chairman of the State of Maine Professional Standards Committee. In Bill’s own community of Freedom, he has served on the Town Charter Commission, the Comprehensive Planning Committee, and served as chairman on the Freedom Planning Board for over a decade.
What continues to feed Bill’s professional fire is knowing that almost every transaction results in all sides being happy and fulfilled.
"William Pickford represents the gold standard in real estate. I was fortunate to retain his services as I was looking to purchase a home in Camden, Maine. Following an introductory conversation on the phone, I met with Bill to preview several properties. I had one day prior to returning to the west coast and Bill managed to show me a wide array of homes that afforded me a clear idea of what the market had to offer. It was obvious to me that in the relatively short time we had together, Bill was perceptive enough to understand what I was looking for and what my specific needs would be. He went above and beyond what one might surmise a realtor might do for a client, while maintaing a standard of professionalism and graciousness that was truly impressive. His level of expertise, knowledge of the real estate market as well as his vast network of fellow professionals laid the groundwork for a seamless transition from Washington State eastward to Maine. While I closed down my life on one coast in preparation for the move to Camden, Bill acted as my agent in the negotiation and purchase of my Camden dream house. He was present at the home inspection and advocated for me every step of the way. During a potentially stressful time, Bill was consistently positive, accessible, and supportive. He has been integral in terns of facilitating a wonderful entree into Camden; a beautiful home and a wealth of information and connections that presage a successful life in this lovely area. I have had the privilege over time of utilizing the services of many realtors and William Pickford is, without reservation, the very best."
