Thirlstane, one of Bar Harbor's lost cottages to the Fire of 1947, sat on this majestic spot overlooking the village and Frenchman Bay with views from north of Bar Island all the way to Egg Rock and all the Porcupine Islands in between. The current residence was built in 1984 and is a carnival of eccentricities with its columns, massive fireplaces, marble staircase and spectacular ocean views.
